Food and Water Watch cautions that we cannot wait for a water shortage catastrophe for the U.S. Congress to undertake inquiry and to ensure that the nation's scientists have the tools and funds to evaluate U.S. groundwater resources. Once data is available, we will then be able as a nation to enact science-based policies on the state and national levels to ensure water resources for future generations.

I'm not sure but there is a lot of data on polluted groundwater. The info is kind of spread out by State. Eastern Tn for one with a limestone base has verified water pollution at one time by some kind of additive that was in gasoline. One drop was enough to pollute 10,000 gallons of water. If I remember the data correctly. The corrective measures that were taken was that no junk yard was to have any fluids left in any junked vehicles which was one of the main causes of the pollution. The most recent was the ash spill by TVA. Of course, with a limited potable water supply, we've been warned for years that it was fixing to run out. Congress is aware and probably under the EPA has some kind of committee but like always really important stuff is hidden in the "oh, things are just hunky dory, we have the EPA looking out for us" stuff. Good article, need to keep this information on the front burner :)

This is what I have done for a living, as a hydrogeologist, for almost 30 years-- locate and develop safe, reliable, non-polluted groundwater sources for public water supplies, et. al., and try to clean up messes. I have written a series of articles on groundwater-- (September 2009)-- including groundwater quality.
I will gladly post a link, if you wish to include them.
Great article! Take care!

With our water issues going on here in CA we are discussing 'monitoring and control' of ground water sources...We are having 'subsidence issues'...'feet' and 'meters' deep, not just 'inches'...I have posted articles to that effect in the CA Issues group...
Fresh water is a big concern here...
Lots of 'spills' occurred during and after the 'mining' phases in the foothills...mercury, lead, arsenic and etc here in the Northern portion of the state......has gotten into the supply...selenium more so going south here.

You can't talk about polluted ground water unless you discuss the depletion of ground water supplies. My Dad worked on this issue in the 1960's. All it has become is worse.
Big business doesn't care about this world. Unless the people demand that we have clean air, water and food having a job won't really manner.

Excellent and very important article. Thanks.
Water resource battles will soon make oil wars look like kindergarten.
