It is fitting that the town square feature a traditional First Peoples' welcome figure. And it is exciting that the site is a former Puyallup Tribal village. Congratulations to the artist, Shaun Peterson, for his vision and for the humble spirit with which he approaches the project. It is also exciting that master carver and Makah artist Greg Colfax will be partnering on the carving project. Many will no doubt travel long distances to witness the artists at work. Peterson accentuates the importance of preserving Northwest tribal culture as well as the learning opportunities the carving project affords native youth.
