Harvard Medical School researchers study finds that nearly 45,000 people die in the U.S. each year largely due to lack of health insurance. "We're losing more Americans every day because of inaction . . . than drunk driving and homicide combined." Dr. David Himmelstein, a co-author of the study and an associate professor of medicine at Harvard, said in an interview with Reuters.

It's regrettable that it is the threat of legislation that would actually pass this year prompts this sudden disclosure. Call me a cynic, but I cannot celebrate Pfizer or any of these pharmaceutical companies for doing what they should. Further, I think that minimum reporting should be $100 rather than $500.

President-Elect Obama may be on the right track for healthcare reform with a strategy similar to Pres. Johnson's Medicare plan. What happens to HR 676--the best healthcare bill from Congress to date? Though I am hopeful about Obama's strategy, I hope that HR 676 is not simply tossed. Further, I worry that there has been insufficient time for the community forums to occur, and I wonder about the quality of a fast-tracked product during this recession.
